Position Summary: The Instructional Laboratory Assistant – Transportation provides services to students within the Transportation department that assist in the recruitment, retention, and academic, personal and professional achievement of students.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: • Observe, coach and assist students in the completion of homework assignments, lab assignments and class projects. • Setup and breakdown laboratories and assist with laboratory activities as assigned by the department’s instructors. • Train and track part-time laboratory assistants under the direction of the supervisor so that appropriate schedules and tasks are covered. • Assist with maintaining a safe laboratory working environment. Familiarity with OSHA and MSDS requirements. • Assist with inventory procurement and manage the department’s classroom, laboratory and maintenance supplies via scan tool and related software. • Support instructor’s needs by carrying out tasks and requests as assigned by department’s instructors. • Assist with the recruiting of students, may include visiting high schools to promote program, etc. with a special emphasis on underrepresented student population areas. • Assist with all required classroom/lab assignments, presentations, and student handout creation • Assist with promotional events and competitions • Understand the department’s course curriculum and objectives and relay info to students when needed. • Maintain lab and classrooms to ensure a safe work environment for students and staff • Maintain department inventory levels for all associated lab and classroom assignments • Maintain, troubleshoot and at times repair all laboratory equipment in the event of breakdown. • Other duties as assigned. Hours/Schedule: This is a Classified Faculty position, scheduled to work year-round, accountable for forty (40) hours per week. Hours vary based on class schedules—days, nights and weekends.
Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: • Associates Degree in Automotive Services or a closely related field or equivalent education, training, and laboratory work expertise as determined by the college. • Two (2) years full-time work experience in skilled area.
Additional Preferred Qualifications: • Appropriate ASE credentials which showed evidence of competency in automotive servicing.
