Pace Suburban Bus Service has openings for individuals who are responsible for procuring materials, supplies, and services including bus parts, general building services, IT equipment (hardware and software) and support, office and capital equipment, surplus property disposal, facility renovation projects, and consulting and professional service in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations and Pace policies.
Pace Suburban Bus is the premier suburban transit provider, safely and efficiently moving people to work, school, and other regional destinations. Pace’s family of public transportation services offer affordable and environmentally responsible transit options for residents of 284 municipalities in Cook, Will, DuPage, Kane, Lake, and McHenry counties. In addition, Pace also provides the City of Chicago ADA Paratransit service within the CTA service area.
The backbone of Chicago’s suburbs, Pace services tens of thousands of daily riders. One of the largest bus services in North America, Pace covers 3,677 square miles in an area nearly the size of the state of Connecticut and about 15 times the size of the City of Chicago. Pace’s innovative approach to public transportation gives the Agency a national reputation as an industry leader.
Responsibilities also include:
Facilitating the RFP process and contract negotiations,
Assisting users with contract administration issues,
Developing scopes of work, conducting cost and/or price analyses,
Creating purchase orders and bid documents,
Preparing documents to present to management and the Pace Board of Directors
Must a have bachelor's degree in business or related discipline.
Two or more years of procurement and/or contracting experience or a combination of related experience and procurement training.
Prior government procurement/contracting experience is preferred.
Must have demonstrated intermediate level proficiency with internet research, Microsoft Suites applications including Outlook, Word and Excel, and with ERP systems such as Oracle and People Soft.
Must be highly organized, detail oriented, and a be able to successfully work on numerous projects simultaneously and efficiently in order to meet project deadlines.
Must have a demonstrated aptitude for mathematics. Must demonstrate excellent reading comprehension and verbal and written communication skills.
Must demonstrate effective problem-solving skills, the ability to maintain confidentiality, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
This position is subject to the provisions set forth in 5 ILCS 430/5-45 ( c ) of the State Officials and Employee Ethics Act.

Pace is governed by a Board of Directors consisting of thirteen directors. Each serves a four-year term and, with the exception of the Commissioner of the Mayor?s Office for People with Disabilities, must be a Mayor or Village President from his or her respective region, or a former Mayor or Village President residing in his or her respective region.
