Job Summary

Is responsible for managing the operations and staff in the Oakland County Transit Division. Develops a county wide strategy for improving all forms of transit services throughout the county. Ensures accountability of all millage proceeds and seeks to leverage those resources with state and federal resources. Serves as a top-level interface with Transit providers. Interfaces with the Oakland County Executive’s Office and Board of Commissioners in the development of transit priorities and policy. Prepares reports, summaries, and lists of accomplishments for the Oakland County Transit program. Advocates with local, regional, state, and federal agencies and staff for their support and participation in County transit programs and projects. Works cooperatively with other County departments and divisions to address the community, economic and workforce development aspects of transit. Utilizes current Countywide and/or department specific software to complete assignments.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Professional license, registration, or certification from a recognized licensing agency as an engineer, accountant, architect, landscape architect, planner, or related profession. 
  • The application is incomplete in ANY capacity
  • Valid Driver's License Number

At the time of application, applicant must:

1. Possess a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in City, Urban or Regional Planning, Transportation Planning, Civil Engineering, Architecture, Economics, Public Administration, or a closely related field.

NOTE: Applicants possessing transcripts from a college or university outside of the United States will be required to provide documentation of degree equivalency from a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (http://naces.org/members.html). The degree evaluation will be required for application processing.

2. Have had at least seven (7) years of full-time professional work experience in the public or private sector in transit planning, urban or regional planning, development, or a closely related area of which at least three (3) years were in an administrative capacity involving supervisory, budgetary, and related administrative functions.

3. Possess a professional license, registration, or certification from a recognized licensing agency as an engineer, accountant, architect, landscape architect, planner, or related profession.

NOTE: A Master’s Degree in one of the education programs listed above may be substitute for one (1) year of experience.

4. Possess a valid United States motor vehicle operator’s or chauffeur’s license. Out of Country driver’s license holders will be required to obtain the appropriate valid State of Michigan driver’s license before the hire date.

5. Pass the complete examination, including the employment medical, established for this classification.

6. Successfully complete the six month probationary period.
