Do you have an interest in being part of the innovation and advancement of traffic operations, ensuring safe and efficient travel for your family and community? Are you ready to go the extra mile with MDOT?

As the next Grand Region traffic signals engineer, you would be responsible for:

  • Coordinating and enhancing region traffic signal operations and maintenance
  • Providing and coordinating technical expertise on traffic signals and other electronic traffic devices
  • Collaborating with others on the Traffic Safety and Operations team
  • Innovating and advancing arterial management of traffic operations throughout the region

The MDOT Grand Region covers 13 counties in beautiful west Michigan, which include everything from the Manistee National Forest (more than 540,000 acres), endless white sandy beaches, innumerable public and private camping areas, thousands of miles of urban and rural bike trails, and the city of Grand Rapids (also known as Beer City USA and #16 on US News’s most recent Best Places to Live list with a vibrant arts and culture scene). There are inland lakes, huge rivers, gentle streams everywhere, and, of course, Lake Michigan.

It is an exciting time in Grand Region. This position will have opportunities to be involved with the latest transportation technologies and pilot project efforts focused on safety and mobility. We have just started our Safety Service Patrol, are in process of starting up traffic signal performance monitoring and have seven active ITS projects that will expand our infrastructure, plus we're starting design next year on our first Flex Route project. We have freeway and arterial ITS with both urban and rural challenges.

The "Salary" listed above is a range that reflects the minimum rate at the entry (9) level through the maximum rate at the advanced (12) level. Based on education and experience, candidates will be reviewed to determine what level they are qualified for.
