METROPOLITAN COUNCIL SEEKS A STRATEGIC AND INNOVATIVE GENERAL MANAGER OF METRO TRANSIT
Starting Salary Range: $210,000 - $275,000
The Metro Transit General Manager provides leadership, vision, and operational and administrative management to the Metro Transit division of the Metropolitan Council and ensures service delivery of the regional bus and rail system in the seven-county Twin Cities metro. Metro Transit has an annual operating budget of more than $530 million, a six-year capital improvement plan of $2.57 billion, and 3,000 employees. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, Metro Transit provided nearly 80 million rides annually, and ridership has been recovering steadily in the last year from the beginning of the pandemic.
The ideal candidate is a strategic transit leader who can build on Metro Transit's strengths and apply creative solutions to contemporary challenges. They think out-of-the-box, relying less on traditional operational methods and more on tailored innovations to bring Metro Transit to the cutting edge of efficient, reliable, and safe transportation that expands ridership and fits people’s lifestyles today. In addition, they are empathetic, listening to viewpoints of diverse groups and translating them into original, effective solutions. They are politically-savvy, cultivating productive relationships with policy makers, media, and other stakeholders. They also strengthen the organizational culture to engage staff, instill trust, encourage innovation and champion diversity, equity and inclusion.
