This position will support the City’s Bridge and Pavement Preservation programs and Senior Project Managers in delivering consultant designed transportation projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Bridge and Pavement Preservation Programs:
- Assist with updating and maintaining the City’s bridge files, pavement management system, and curb ramp inventory.
- Assist with the planning and implementation of routine inspections of the City’s roadway pavements and bridges.
- Participate in the Transportation Department’s ADA committee. Work with other committee members to develop design guidance documents and ADA-related best practices.
- Provide design engineering support including developing project scopes and work plans, and cost estimates for future projects.
- Participate on project teams as a reviewer for ADA and pavement related items.
- Conduct field assessments to determine pavements and/or curb ramp condition.
- Assist the ADA, Bridge and Pavement Manager in responding to questions or concerns from staff and the public.
Project Management for Consultant Designed Projects:
- Assist Senior Project Managers in the delivery of Capital Investment Program (CIP) Projects. This includes provide engineering support in reviewing and coordinating reviews of work performed by project teams and consultants, coordinating project issues with project team members, other business units and City departments, outside agencies, and franchise utilities.
- Provide support in obtaining project permits, property rights acquisition, and public outreach activities.
- Provide design engineering support for consultant designed projects in construction.
Supervision:
Works under the general supervision of the Engineering Manager.
Education:
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in Civil Engineering or closely related fields.
- Two or more years of professional related experience in transportation engineering
- or any equivalent combination of education, experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or ability to obtain one within a year will be considered.
Qualifications:
- Must be a self-starter, take initiative, have a desire to learn, and practice the principles of shared leadership in daily work.
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with employees, consultants, other agency representatives, City officials and the public.
- Ability to make decisions independently, deal with ambiguity, and apply sound judgment.
- Thorough knowledge of civil engineering principles, practices, and methods applicable to municipal transportation public works projects.
- Ability to work effectively as a team member and to promote a positive work environment.
- Ability to manage time on multiple projects, issues, and priorities effectively and simultaneously with attention to detail.
- Ability to adapt to change and learn as new initiatives, methods, and procedures are implemented.
- Knowledge and experience with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) as it relates to designing and maintaining infrastructure in the public right of way.
- Thorough knowledge of and experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D 2018, or later.
- Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Project, SharePoint, PowerPoint, etc.

- Must be located within commuting distance of Bellevue City Hall. There is an opportunity for some remote work, as agreed upon with the supervisor.
