AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY:
Reporting to the Manager, Transportation Planning, this position is responsible to lead a multi-departmental, multi-disciplinary team in the development and implementation of active transportation projects and programs that are critical to the successful management of the City’s transportation network, including an Active Transportation Master Plan and education, promotion and funding activities that support pedestrian and cycling infrastructure.
Provide project management in planning and programming for the construction of active transportation infrastructure, including bicycle lanes and routes, multi-use trails and other supporting infrastructure, and the implementation of active transportation programs and promotions. Lead a multi-disciplinary team in identifying new trail opportunities, coordinating new design and right-of-way standards, and set active transportation priorities. Design the overall project delivery strategy including the creation and execution of project plans. Analyse the impact of project deferrals, delays and recommends measures to ensure project requirements are addressed.
Lead the preparation of studies and prepare associated recommendations, policies and reports to address challenges and opportunities to implement an active transportation network and culture in the City of Brampton, including the development and implementation of an Active Transportation Master Plan. Coordinate and provide feedback on transportation and traffic impact studies, environmental assessment projects, planning policy reviews, and development applications as they relate to active transportation initiatives.
Promote community engagement by developing and implementing sustainable transportation programs through community education and outreach programs; provide leadership on public engagement processes as it relates to neighbourhood cycling facilities; and guide efforts to support the promotion of sustainable active transportation options to the public, including initiatives such as Carpool Week, Bike Month and Bike to Work Day.
Represent the City by participating on various committees and task forces at the municipal, regional, and provincial levels, to address active transportation matters, including the Brampton Cycling Advisory Committee. Collaborate and build strong relationships with external stakeholders, including public agencies, government partners, business leaders, school boards, the media and advocacy groups to implement active transportation initiatives.
Prepare and monitor capital budgets by developing short, medium and long-term business, program and budget plans to support the implementation of sustainable transportation objectives. Assist in the coordination of City and Regional capital budgets to ensure timely funding and delivery of transportation infrastructure, which accommodates new travel demand in accordance with appropriate forecasts, the City’s growth management program, by-laws etc.
SELECTION CRITERIA:
EDUCATION:
Minimum university level degree in Engineering (transportation) specialization or Urban & Regional Planning.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
5-7 years experience in complex project management role, preferably in a community transportation planning role within government.
Good understanding of active transportation modes and growth-related infrastructure requirements.
Ability to use MS Office software and modelling software.
Experience preparing and presenting reports to a diverse audience (politicians, agencies, public and staff).
OTHER SKILLS AND ASSETS:
3-5 years supervisory experience in a unionized environment preferred.
Accreditation in Project Management (PMP, PMI) an asset.
